I took part of a day to investigate & troubleshoot the electrical system. Between the 45 year old wires and the ham-fisted "electrician" who used to own it, it's a mess. After I drove it home, it wouldn't fire again. No electrical of any kind - no light, no fuel pump, no turning over - nothing. I took the tape off the ignition switch, and it fell apart. I had been thinking of a vintage car for some time, but hadn't really decided exactly what I want. I like the old Volvo 544 & 122s, and my aunt used to drive a Triumph GT6, so those were options. My criteria was 2 doors, hard top and smaller than a Mustang. Pre-'74 means freedom from smog checks, which is something I don't want to deal with on a vintage car. Disc brakes, at least up front, are required in Bay Area traffic. I'd been searching for a while, and a friend sent me a CL ad for a MGB...
