Will properly have the same trouble with my Spit6,
so installed LED running lights, they work good, about blinded me.
They are 2 inch, so not over the top in size. Used the rear bumper side brackets to mount on a flat piece I left on that was part of late bumper framing.
Fit right through the pulled forward grill and cut about 3 inches off the flat. Solid as a rock.
Added hood struts, electric fuel pump, LED rear lights and H4 fronts with relays and new dash needs installing. with the wiring harness.

Well, here's a couple of things I learned.
If the gap on one side keeps coming back to too close, check your hinges, one may be bent. Don't know how, maybe by PO.
Another, your new gasket will not let you get it down to level. It really shows up when the ridges have been removed.
Changed the gasket to some stuff I had from another job, worked great. No movement or rattle when pulling on it.
Start all bolts down to a couple of turns and cover the rear deck with some multi layers of towels. Do the same on the trunk surround, get it in place with gaps good and reach through the side of the gas tank to tighten the two side bolts with a deep well 1/2 inch socket on a 1/4 inch racket.
Now you can lift, tighten the single bolt and see how well you did. Install you gasket and see what you got, bet it's too high.
It will go down with wear. According to Mr. Humphs, (John Inman) if you remember the show Are You Being Served. LOL

It sure looks black in the garage, but the other pieces do also and they turn out real silver in the light.

May find a good lid later.
Got the hood done, so things are moving forward.

All of those towels you see under the doors are wet down and wring out before laying them down, no blowing dust.
Turned out good and two heavy coats, plenty of room for rubbing out.
